744f3b2823 Cleanup: Grammar in comments: Fix uses of "own"
"Own" (the adjective) cannot be used on its own. It should be combined
with something like "its own", "our own",  "her own", or "the object's own".
It also isn't used separately to mean something like "separate".

Also, "its own" is correct instead of "it's own" which is a misues of the verb.

0106514669 Fix #107232: Creating builtin attributes in edit mode can cause crash
For example, creating the "position" attribute with the wrong name or type
could crash Blender when exiting edit mode. This is because some data isn't
stored as attributes in Blender, and the attribute API doesn't work very well
with BMesh.

Two parts to the solution:
- Remove builtin attributes with incorrect domains or names when
  converting from BMesh to Mesh.
- Add error messages when creating builtin attributes in edit mode. It's still
  possible to create name-convention attributes, because Blender should be
  able to handle different types and domains for them.

445fd42c61 Windows: Add ARM64 support
* Only works on machines with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 or above.
  Older generation devices are not and will not be supported due to
  some driver issues
* Requires VS2022 for building.
* Uses new MSVC preprocessor for sse2neon compatibility.
* SIMD is not enabled, waiting on conversion of blenlib to C++.

91fd6748ad Fix #111574: Avoid asserts in BMLog with Dyntopo
This PR adds a new method to BMLog to explicitly make the intent of
searching for an entry clear and adjusts the calling code in `pbvh_bmesh`
to utilize it.

1c77779160 Refactor: Store a 'Mesh' in the editmesh snap cache and use it for snapping
In this commit, a temporary mesh is created representing the edit mesh.
This mesh is then used in the Edit Mesh snapping system instead of the
BMesh.

By using a Mesh object for snapping, we remove a considerable amount of
code and use a more optimized version of snapping.

This simplifies the code and makes it easier to implement new features.

a39e8a4ab9 Cleanup: Use StringRef instead of C strings in CustomData API
This simplifies some code. It may improve performance slightly too,
because of faster string comparisons with a known length.

d377ef2543 Clang Format: bump to version 17
Along with the 4.1 libraries upgrade, we are bumping the clang-format
version from 8-12 to 17. This affects quite a few files.

If not already the case, you may consider pointing your IDE to the
clang-format binary bundled with the Blender precompiled libraries.

b9b47088bc Cleanup: Remove unnecessary DNA_meshdata_types.h includes
Except for vertex groups and a few older color types, these
are generally replaced by newer generic attribute types.
Also remove some includes of DNA_mesh_types.h, since it's
included indirectly by BKE_mesh.hh currently.

edf8a776ac Cleanup: Use forward declarations to replace includes of BKE_attribute.hh
Remove most includes of this header inside other headers, to remove unnecessary
indirect includes which can have a impact on compile times. In the future we may
want more dedicated "_fwd.hh" headers, but until then, this sticks with the
solution in existing code.

Unfortunately it isn't yet possible to remove the include from `BKE_geometry_set.hh`.

19001c9e6c Cleanup: Move attribute domain enum to C++ header, use enum class
Each value is now out of the global namespace, so they can be shorter
and easier to read. Most of this commit just adds the necessary casting
and namespace specification. `enum class` can be forward declared since
it has a specified size. We will make use of that in the next commit.

efbee2d606 Mesh: Rename totvert, totedge, and totloop fields
Use the standard "elements_num" naming, and use the "corner" name rather
than the old "loop" name: `verts_num`, `edges_num`, and `corners_num`.
This matches the existing `faces_num` field which was already renamed.

c53e220aef Cleanup: Use C++ attribute API instead of CustomData API
This gives better asserts in debug builds through use of Span, more
safety when name convention attributes happen to have different types
or domains, and simpler code in some cases. But the main reasoning is to
avoid relying on the specifics of CustomData more to allow us to replace
it in the future.

22d65bad95 Cleanup: pass BMesh by pointer instead of reference
The version of BM_elem_attrs_copy that took a map used a reference
the version without a map didn't, which is fairly confusing.

Pass by pointer now unless this is part of a wider refactor
to move to references everywhere.

15cff1fddb BMesh: optimize attribute copying by reusing BMCustomDataCopyMap
Continuation of fix for #115776. Removes attribute copy functions
that calculate the map inline, this is error prone as it's easy to
call these functions from a loop which may result in poor performance.

0b1049b41d BMesh: Optimize copying attributes from many elements at once
Fixes #115776

Create a minimal structure that contains the instructions necessary to
copy from one custom data format to another. This structure is similar
to the one used in dfacaf4f40. It should have been used in
9175d9b7c2, which instead introduced quadratic performance
relative to the number of layers when copying every element.

In this commit, copying the entire mesh and adding new custom data
are explicitly changed to use the new map to speed up copying many
elements at a time.

The non-map attribute copy functions are also changed to check for when
the source and result BMeshes are the same. In that case it's much
faster to call the "same format" function from 9175d9b7c2.

For numbers, the timings are arbitrarily influenced by how many layers
I add in my testing. With 50 or so layers, a 10x difference is easily
observable though.

854cdd1180 Cleanup: Use consistent "mesh" variable name (replace "me")
"mesh" reads much better than "me" since "me" is a different word.
There's no reason to avoid using two more characters here. Replacing
all of these at once is better than encountering it repeatedly and
doing the same change bit by bit.

e06561a27a Build: replace Blender specific DEBUG by standard NDEBUG
NDEBUG is part of the C standard and disables asserts. Only this will
now be used to decide if asserts are enabled.

DEBUG was a Blender specific define, that has now been removed.

_DEBUG is a Visual Studio define for builds in Debug configuration.
Blender defines this for all platforms. This is still used in a few
places in the draw code, and in external libraries Bullet and Mantaflow.

fc863c63e6 BMesh: don't make threading threshold dependent on debug/release build
While it may be useful to detect threading issues for low poly meshes in debug
builds, it can also cause confusion when one breaks but not the other.

Further, having this logic for just a handlful bmesh functions while everything
else does not makes little sense.

865b806811 BMesh: Use simpler element copy within the same mesh
After previous commits, there is a new function to copy a BMesh
custom data block that doesn't go through the "find common layers
between two formats" code. This is *much* faster when there is a
large amount of layers with the same type, since that code is
quadratic currently. It may not be noticeable in many simpler
setups though.

fc4d29e08a Cleanup: Simplify common logic for BMesh attribute copy
Overload the attribute copy function for each element type, avoiding
the switch of different abstraction levels. The two extra arguments
besides the meshes and elements were constant, so the resulting
logic can be inlined as well.
