3dc832a904 Switch SVN to Git submodules using Git-LFS
This change makes it so build system and update utilities for Blender builds
are using pre-compiled libraries and other resources attached as Git modules
instead of using checkout of SVN repositories in the parent folder.

The directory layout:
```

      * README.txt
  * lib/
    * darwin_x64/    -> lib-darwin_x64.git
    * darwin_arm64/  -> lib-darwin_arm64.git

    * data/         -> blender-test-data.git
```

The changes about configuring the actual Git sub-modules are not included
into this patch, as those require repository to actually exist before it
can be used.

The assets submodule is enabled by default, and the rest of them are
disabled. This means that if someone runs `git submodule update --init`
they will not get heavy libraries. The platform-specific and tests
related submodules are enabled when using `make update` or `make test`.

All the submodules are tracked: this means that when new commits are
done to the submodule, the blender.git repository is to be updated to
point them to the new hash. This causes some extra manual work, but it
allows to more easily update Blender and its dependencies to known good
state when performing operations like bisect.

324ef0cbf4 RenderTest: GPU Render Tests Pass Silently
Add silently fail option to GPU based render tests. This is a pre-requisite to enable
render tests on the buildbot. By default these render tests will pass silently.

* Test will pass when using the `--pass-silently` arguments.
* Only crashes will be reported as failed tests.
* To find out failing test, review the test reports.

`WITH_GPU_RENDER_TESTS_SILENT` compile option can be used to let tests pass (default)
or fail (default for developers).

Although some tests fail, they still passed. In the generated render report,
the silently passed failures are correctly reported to be failures.

af25e2d5df RenderTests: Disable Cycles Only Tests for other Engines
This PR disables cycles only render tests for the gpu/viewport based
render engines. These render engines include EEVEE, Workbench, but
also the Hydra viewport engines. Disabling those test would reduce
test time.

Tests that are being disabled are features that are only supported
by Cycles.
- Light groups
- Light linking
- Shadow catcher
- Denoising
- Path guiding
- Reports

f11292104d Render Tests: Separate difference of Color and Alpha
This change fixes confusion situation when the render output
is an RGBA image: the difference in color was not visible in
the report because alpha channel was all zeros. This is due
to idiff performing per-channel difference.

The solution to this problem is to have separate images for
color and alpha difference, which makes it clear where the
difference actually is coming from.

CurvesGeometry has no ".selection" attribute when all control points
are selected. The earlier code assumed that the attribute always exists.

d0ef66ddff Drivers: implement fallback values for RNA path based variables.
As discussed in #105407, it can be useful to support returning
a fallback value specified by the user instead of failing the driver
if a driver variable cannot resolve its RNA path. This especially
applies to context variables referencing custom properties, since
when the object with the driver is linked into another scene, the
custom property can easily not exist there.

This patch adds an optional fallback value setting to properties
based on RNA path (including ordinary Single Property variables
due to shared code and similarity). When enabled, RNA path lookup
failures (including invalid array index) cause the fallback value
to be used instead of marking the driver invalid.

A flag is added to track when this happens for UI use. It is
also exposed to python for lint type scripts.

When the fallback value is used, the input field containing
the property RNA path that failed to resolve is highlighted in red
(identically to the case without a fallback), and the driver
can be included in the With Errors filter of the Drivers editor.
However, the channel name is not underlined in red, because
the driver as a whole evaluates successfully.

3e744db9fe Tests: Refactor handling of environment variables when invoking tests.
The current handling had a fairly bad issue: multiple calls to
`set_tests_properties` to set envvars of a same test.

This does not work, only the last call is effective, all previous
ones have absolutely no effect.

This has been addressed by moving all 'set envvar for test' logic into a
single CMake function, `blender_test_set_envvars`.

This function takes optional extra envvars if needed, and define a set
of default ones (currently, `PATH` from `PLATFORM_ENV_INSTALL` if
defined, and the 'nuke' `exitcode=0` `LSAN_OPTIONS` if relevant).

NOTE: The way `blender_test_set_envvars` handles extra envvars passed to
it as parameter is fairly basic and unsafe, in that there is no check
whether a same envvar is defined more than once. Think for now this is
an acceptable limitation.

NOTE: Although this commit _should_ be a non-functional change one, the
unification of the handling of all envvars makes it hard to ensure there is no
side effects.
The `PATH` envvar e.g. was set to either `PLATFORM_ENV_INSTALL` if defined,
or a copy of that variable's definition, but only in Windows case. So technically,
the behavior for this envvar is changed.

364beee159 Tests: add option to build one binary per GTest file
Bundling many tests in a single binary reduces build time and disk space
usage, but is less convenient for running individual tests command line
as filter flags need to be used.

This adds WITH_TESTS_SINGLE_BINARY to generate one executable file per
source file. Note that enabling this option requires a significant amount
of disk space.

Due to refactoring, the resulting ctest names are a bit different than
before. The number of tests is also a bit different depending if this
option is used, as one uses gtests discovery and the other is organized
purely by filename, which isn't always 1:1.

2aac1528f2 Anim: add unit test for armature bone collections
Add a Python unit test that covers some of the armature/bone collections.
Some of these tests cover the same functionality as the C++ tests, albeit
via the Python/RNA API.

Another test was added to check that joining armatures works as expected.

c11004579e GPU: Remove the Word OpenGL from Build Scripts
The build scripts are still referring to gpu tests as being opengl.
Although they can also use Metal or Vulkan. This PR only replaces
the work `opengl` with `gpu` for build options.

Special note is that the windows argument `with_opengl_tests` is
also replaced with `with_gpu_tests` for consistency.

ec36296913 Geometry Nodes: Test for field type inferencing
Adds a python test script for the field inferencing mechanism in geometry nodes.

Tests various combinations of field-to-value and value-to-field combinations as well as unconnected base nodes. Zones are tested because they can require multiple passes to resolve, especially when nesting.

Testing is based on socket display shapes as a proxy for field type, since the field type is not exposed in RNA yet. Likewise, testing for red links caused by field dependencies can only be done indirectly currently, because such links are not actually made invalid by the inferencing code, and just drawn red by the editor.

dccbc27eab Tests: add WIITH_TESTS_BATCHED option to execute Blender once per test
Some tests like cycles, sequencer and compositor batch together multiple
tests in a single Blender invocation. This makes them run faster, but
makes debugging harder. This is an option to disable that batching.

Cover the current behavior of keyframe insertion with unit tests,
so the changes planned in #113278 are less likely to break things.

check if visual keying produces the
correct keyframe values

check if cycle aware keying remaps
the keyframes correctly and adds fcurve modifiers

126f3bcfc1 Tests: support running graphical tests as part of CTests
User a Blender wrapper `tests/utils/blender_headless.py` to runs a
graphical instance of Blender within a headless weston compositor.

Currently only WAYLAND is supported as a back-end, support for other
platforms is possible. The tests can run from X11 since the tests don't
depend on existing instances of X11 or WAYLAND.

- Each test runs a separate headless instance of WESTON
  since the overhead is minimal, this allows tests to run in parallel
  without interfering with each other.

- There is a CMake option WESTON_BIN, when left empty the weston
  from LIBDIR is used. Otherwise this can point to the weston binary
  installed on the users system.

- In most cases simulated events are needed to implement these tests
  (running blender with `--enable-event-simulate`).

- This commit adds 14 undo tests - simulating user interaction as well
  as undo/redo actions, ensuring the desired result is reached.
  Other kinds of UI tests could be added in the future.

b4de568cc4 EEVEE-Next: Tests support
Enable tests for EEVEE Next.

As a workaround for allowing the use of EEVEE Next (still an
experimental feature) with `--factory-startup`, `arg_handle_engine_set`
enables the feature when `-E BLENDER_EEVEE_NEXT` is used.
In addition, EEVEE Next is always registered, so it's available when
calling `WM_init`.
If it's actually disabled, it will be immediately unregistered after that.

Notes:
- `get_gpu_device_type` always fails with error:
  > GPU API is not available in background mode
- Setup and tests are the same as EEVEE. There are many tests that
  only make sense for Cycles, and many EEVEE Next features that are
  not actually tested.

3d5c6dc218 Tests: Add test to open all blendfiles in current /lib/tests/ repository.
This is fairly brute force and rough, but there are quite a few old
files in there, helps a bit with versioning and readfile code testing.

Note: Five files are currently excluded since failing in debug builds
at least, most of the time for memleaks issues. The two other 'errors'
may also not be actual issues, but this needs to be investigated further.

Also, in the future, when time allows, it may be better to generate a
set of dedicated testing files, with as many official releases versions
as possible?

Also use "bf_io_" prefix for the libraries since it was already used
by some and it's a useful hint the libraries are used for IO.

e071288ab2 Nodes: Panels integration with blend files and UI
Part 3/3 of #109135, #110272

Switch to new node group interfaces and deprecate old DNA and API.
This completes support for panels in node drawing and in node group
interface declarations in particular.

The new node group interface DNA and RNA code has been added in parts
1 and 2 (#110885, #110952) but has not be enabled yet. This commit
completes the integration by
* enabling the new RNA API
* using the new API in UI
* read/write new interfaces from blend files
* add versioning for backward compatibility
* add forward-compatible writing code to reconstruct old interfaces

All places accessing node group interface declarations should now be
using the new API. A runtime cache has been added that allows simple
linear access to socket inputs and outputs even when a panel hierarchy
is used.

Old DNA has been deprecated and should only be accessed for versioning
(inputs/outputs renamed to inputs_legacy/outputs_legacy to catch
errors). Versioning code ensures both backward and forward
compatibility of existing files.

The API for old interfaces is removed. The new API is very similar but
is defined on the `ntree.interface` instead of the `ntree` directly.
Breaking change notifications and detailed instructions for migrating
will be added.

A python test has been added for the node group API functions. This
includes new functionality such as creating panels and moving items
between different levels.

This patch does not yet contain panel representations in the modifier
UI. This has been tested in a separate branch and will be added with a
later PR (#108565).

9d08be1eec Realtime Compositor: add regression tests
Tests must be enabled manually using the CMake flag `WITH_COMPOSITOR_REALTIME_TEST`. Reasons are F12 for realtime compositor is experimental and buildbots have no GPU. Failing tests are excluded.

5478798526 Cleanup: use lowercase cmake commands
The `Find*.cmake` modules originally used uppercase commands to match
CMake's own conventions. Since then CMake uses lower-case and even
within our own find modules, using all uppercase wasn't done
consistently. Opt for lowercase everywhere.

e955c94ed3 License Headers: Set copyright to "Blender Authors", add AUTHORS
Listing the "Blender Foundation" as copyright holder implied the Blender
Foundation holds copyright to files which may include work from many
developers.

While keeping copyright on headers makes sense for isolated libraries,
Blender's own code may be refactored or moved between files in a way
that makes the per file copyright holders less meaningful.

Copyright references to the "Blender Foundation" have been replaced with
"Blender Authors", with the exception of `./extern/` since these this
contains libraries which are more isolated, any changed to license
headers there can be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Some directories in `./intern/` have also been excluded:

- `./intern/cycles/` it's own `AUTHORS` file is planned.
- `./intern/opensubdiv/`.

An "AUTHORS" file has been added, using the chromium projects authors
file as a template.

647f2053a9 Tests: add automated regressions tests for Hydra Storm
These are meant to test Hydra integration. Currently they are only enabled
for WITH_OPENGL_RENDER_TESTS=ON due to similar reasons as Eevee and
Workbench, which is that they require a GPU and results can be platform
dependent due to hardware and driver differences.

There are separate tests for USD and Hydra export paths. The goal is to
make these identical, but they aren't yet. So for that reason they have
separate reference renders, and there is a HTML page to compare them.

3d73b71a97 Geometry Nodes: new Repeat Zone
This adds support for running a set of nodes repeatedly. The number
of iterations can be controlled dynamically as an input of the repeat
zone. The repeat zone can be added in via the search or from the
Add > Utilities menu.

The main use case is to replace long repetitive node chains with a more
flexible alternative. Technically, repeat zones can also be used for
many other use cases. However, due to their serial nature, performance
is very  sub-optimal when they are used to solve problems that could
be processed in parallel. Better solutions for such use cases will
be worked on separately.

Repeat zones are similar to simulation zones. The major difference is
that they have no concept of time and are always evaluated entirely in
the current frame, while in simulations only a single iteration is
evaluated per frame.

Stopping the repetition early using a dynamic condition is not yet
supported. "Break" functionality can be implemented manually using
Switch nodes in the  loop for now. It's likely that this functionality
will be built into the repeat zone in the future.
For now, things are kept more simple.

Remaining Todos after this first version:
* Improve socket inspection and viewer node support. Currently, only
  the first iteration is taken into account for socket inspection
  and the viewer.
* Make loop evaluation more lazy. Currently, the evaluation is eager,
  meaning that it evaluates some nodes even though their output may not
  be required.

9535248911 Tests: support simulation nodes regression tests
Geometry nodes supports simulation nodes which allows later frames to depend
on previous frames. The existing geometry nodes regression tests only evaluated
the node tree at a single frame and therefore couldn't test the correct behavior of
simulations.

This adds a new kind of regression test that evaluates the scene at multiple
consecutive frames and then checks if the last frame matches.

4c5998ee0b Unittest: Add very basic 'old file loading' test.
Use existing `lib/tests/libraries_and_linking/library_test_scene.blend`
essentially as 'file loads without error' test. Also does very basic
proxy -> liboverrides conversion check.

This test could be extended a lot, but just opening this file already
allowed to identify three bugs in current 3.6/main code, and an issue in
an upcoming refactor of the readfile code...

ba3f26fac5 Cycles: light and shadow linking
With light linking, lights can be set to affect only specific objects in the
scene. Shadow linking additionally gives control over which objects acts a
shadow blockers for a light.

aa3bdfd76a Image: Use OpenImageIO for loading and saving a variety of image formats
This checkin will use OIIO to replace the image save/load code for BMP,
DDS, DPX, HDR, PNG, TGA, and TIFF.

This simplifies our build environment, reduces binary duplication,
removes large amounts of hard to maintain code, and fixes some bugs
along the way.

It should also help reduce rare differences between Blender and Cycles
which already uses OIIO for most situations. Or potentially makes them
easier to solve once discovered.

7699c7407d Tests: Add tests for image format saving and loading
This adds saving and loading tests for our supported image formats.

**Saving - bf_imbuf_save.py**
There are 2 template images which are loaded anew for each file save
attempt.  One is an 8-bit RGBA image and the other 32-bit. This is
required as many formats use a variety of factors to determine which of
`ibuf->rect` or `ibuf->rectfloat` to use for processing.  The templates
are constructed to have alpha transparency as well as values > 1 (or
clamped to 1 for the case of the 8-bit template).

Test flow:
 - Load in an appropriate template image
 - Save it to the desired format with the desired set of options
 - Compare against the reference image

Notes:
 - 98 references are used totaling ~3.6MB
 - 10-12 second test runtime
 - Templates can be reconstructed with the create-templates.blend file

**Loading - bf_imbuf_load.py**
Test flow:
 - Load in each of the reference images
 - Save them back out as .exr
 - Save additional metadata to a secondary file (alpha mode, colorspace etc)
 - Compare the saved out .exr with another set of reference .exrs
 - Compare the saved out file metadata with set of reference metadata

Notes:
 - 98 exr references are used totaling ~10MB
 - 10-12 second test runtime as well

A HTML report is not implemented. The diff output organization is very
similar to the other tests so it should be somewhat easy to do in the
future if we want.

The standard set of environment variables are implemented for both:
BLENDER_TEST_UPDATE, BLENDER_VERBOSE, and BLENDER_TEST_COLOR

5040c39d1a Fix T103354: Author extents on UsdGeomMesh
A properly authored USD file will have the extent attribute authored on all prims conforming to UsdGeomBoundable.
This cached extent information is useful because it allows the 3D range of prims to be quickly understood without reading potentially large arrays of data. Note that because the shape of prims may change over time, extent attributes are always evaluated for a given timecode.

This patch introduces support for authoring extents on meshes and volumes during export to USD.

Because extents are common to multiple kinds of geometries, the main support for authoring extents has been placed in USDAbstractWriter, whose new author_extent method can operate on any prim conforming to pxr::UsdGeomBoundable. The USD library already provides us the code necessary to compute the bounds for a given prim, in pxr::UsdGeomBBoxCache::ComputeLocalBound.
Note that not all prims that are imageable are boundable, such as transforms and cameras.

Note that when new types of geometries are introduced, such as curves in https://developer.blender.org/D16545, we will need to update the USD writer for that geometry such that it calls this->author_extent.

Update on Feb 2: This patch has been updated to include a unit test to ensure authored extents are valid. This test requires new test assets that will need to be submitted via svn. The test assets are attached in the d16837_usd_test_assets.zip file. To use, unzip and merge the contents of this zip into the lib/tests/usd folder.

This unit test also addresses #104269 by validating compliance of exported USD via UsdUtils.ComplianceChecker.

85908e9edf Geometry Nodes: new Interpolate Curves node
This adds a new `Interpolate Curves` node. It allows generating new curves
between a set of existing guide curves. This is essential for procedural hair.

Usage:
- One has to provide a set of guide curves and a set of root positions for
  the generated curves. New curves are created starting from these root
  positions. The N closest guide curves are used for the interpolation.
- An additional up vector can be provided for every guide curve and
  root position. This is typically a surface normal or nothing. This allows
  generating child curves that are properly oriented based on the
  surface orientation.
- Sometimes a point should only be interpolated using a subset of the
  guides. This can be achieved using the `Guide Group ID` and
  `Point Group ID` inputs. The curve generated at a specific point will
  only take the guides with the same id into account. This allows e.g.
  for hair parting.
- The `Max Neighbors` input limits how many guide curves are taken
  into account for every interpolated curve.
