38b6f8f167 UI:
* For new buttons spaces, automatically set horizontal/vertical
  align depending on size, instead of free.

* Cleaned up the UI panel API. There's now a new uiBeginPanel
  function which takes a panel type, and a uiEndPanel which takes
  the final size. uiNewPanel* functions will be phased out.
* Animate the re-alignment when a panel size changes, e.g. when
  enabling dupliframes.

* Load ui scripts from the release/ folder first if it is
  available. This makes it easier to edit ui scripts, since it
  will directly use the original files which avoids having to
  run the build system.
* Improve editing of panel types while blender is open. That
  means fixing some issues with lacking updates, overlaps, strange
  ordering. It even does an animation now when the panel resizes.

* Added extra parameter to generic unique name finding function BLI_uniquename() for specifying the delimeter between non-unique parts of the name and digits.

* Driver target variables now get unique names by default.

More cleanup!

- removed old UI font completely, including from uiBeginBlock
- emboss hints for uiBlock only have three types now;
  Regular, Pulldown, or "Nothing" (only icon/text)
- removed old font path from Userdef
- removed all old button theme hinting
- removed old "auto block" to merge buttons in groups
  (was only in use for radiosity buttons)

And went over all warnings. One hooray for make giving clean output :)
Well, we need uniform definitions for warnings, so people at least fix
them... here's the real bad bugs I found:

- in mesh code, a call to editmesh mixed *em and *me
- in armature, ED_util.h was not included, so no warnings for wrong call
  to ED_undo_push()
- The extern Py api .h was not included in the bpy_interface.c, showing
  a several calls using different args.

Further just added the missing includes, and removed unused vars.

c7b587105f UI:
* Added very basic loading of .py files on startup to define panels.
  It now executes all .py files in .blender/ui on startup. Right now
  this contains the object buttons, the C code for it is commented out.

  These files should get embedded in the blender executable as well
  eventually, that's a bit more complicated so this works for now.

* For scons and cmake it seems to copy & find the files OK, for make
  only "make release" works (same with scripts/ folder it seems).

* Added BLI_gethome_folder function in BLI_util.h. This is adapted
  from bpy_gethome, and gives the path to a folder in .blender like
  scripts or ui.

There's plenty of things to figure out here about paths, embedding,
caching, user configs ...

985a4c1e5e RNA:
* Test with constructing RNA paths from pointer + property, based on
  a callback per struct. For animato we'll need to be able to do this,
  for keyframing from buttons, unless we can somehow derive the paths
  from the interface code, which seems like an unnecessary burden.

  However constructing such paths is not always quick, and we need a
  fast way to find out if a property is animated for drawing buttons,
  so this may not be the best solution.

  See rna_mesh.c for some callbacks created as a test.

* Added BLI_sprintfN to mallocN a new string using printf style
  formatting.

Notes:
* Sequence transform strip uses G.scene global, this is commented
  out now, should be fixed.
* Etch-a-ton code was most difficult to merge. The files already in
  2.5 got merged, but no new files were added. Calls to these files
  are commented out with "XXX etch-a-ton". editarmature.c and
  transform_snap.c were complex to merge. Martin, please check?
* Game engine compiles and links again here for scons/make/cmake
  (player still fails to link).

- new icons for filebrowser (large refresh and parent icons missing though)
- fixed error in large icon drawing due to texture coordinates calculated outside subpart of texture.
- removed library loading stuff from filelist

57c7200a65 Merging volume embedding and transform snapping.
- Volume embed is available as a transform snap option (need new icon). Not as "continuous" as stroke embed, will have to be fixed somehow.
- Transform snaps work in armature edit mode (only snap to mesh, not other armatures, for now). Adding to other edit data type should be easy.
- Strokes can use all the transform snap options plus volume embed.

Bug fix: added small threshold to face snap (and volume embed) to prevent slipping in cracks between faces. More tweaking needed but this now takes care of all the worst cases.

3D window Panels back, in own designated region for now.
Activate or hide it with Nkey.

Note that Background Image doesn't work yet,  Transform
Orientations probably need tests by Martin, Sculpt options
have to be recoded there by Nicholas.

The UI design sessions will of course review all of this!
We'll have to solve a lot of related topics;
- navigation (where) and context (what)
- non-overlapping layouts vs floating panels/bars
- properties vs tools (toolbars)
- drop panels and make nice (semi-automated) list views?

I've also done experiments with making the main 3d view
stay 'behind' the buttons region. That makes popping buttons
in and out less distracting, but also makes it obscuring
the view... it's not in this commit, it didn't work proper :)
To get that work it has to be handled by the internal
compositor, then it even can have fancy transparency in back.

Anyhoo, time enough to play with this a while. Especially for
Image window (paint) it can work well too.

c86579b11e 2.5: multiple small fixes
- wm draw method is now initialized correct when reading older
  files, but the SDNA bug causing the problem is still unsolved.
  is due to // char pad[8]; not being recognized as commented.
- triple buffer proxy texture test follows spec better now,
  was disabling triple buffer unnecessarily on some drivers.
- some cmake compile fixes related to sequencer pthread usage
  and removed bad level calls lib for player.
- show outliner header buttons in oops mode as well until that
  can be switched in the UI.
- fix region data free issue for tooltips
- warning fixes

Cleanup warnings from Joshua's commit (mostly unused variables,
but also used functions that were not prototyped).

Two bugfixes; passing on &ob->adt instead of ob->adt

But; the DNA system is now messed up, with two structs using
the same ID (nAction and bAction), that goes horrible wrong!

12k lines of sequencer back! Only seqaudio.c skipped for now.
Notes:

- it only draws now, nothing refreshes or edits.
- fixed bug in view2d.c with vertical grid step being 0.0f
- render code and fileselect code is #ifdeffed out
- sequence evaluation code moved to blenkernel, so it can
  be used for render without bad level calls

General note; sequencer code is very untidy, mixing styles too
much. Tried to clean it some, but it would be nice if formatting
is kept consistant from now on.

0a8a00cd10 2.5: Error reporting
* Added a report list to operator, to which they can report errors and
  warnings. When the operator ends, it will display them with a popup. For
  python these should become exceptions when calling operators.
* Added a function to make a popup menu from a report list.
* Also added a utility function to prepend a string before the reports to
  indicate what they relates to. Also made the report functions used
  BLI_dynstr to simplify the code.
* Made file reading and writing report errors to the user again using this
  system, also replacing the left over uncommented bad level error() calls.

Transform:
First working port of the transform code:
- Object mode only (other conversions need to be ported)
- Contraints (global and local only) working
- Snap (no edit mode, obviously) working
- Numinput working
- Gears (Ctrl and Shift) working
- Only grap, rotate, scale, shear, warp and to sphere have been added as hotkey, but the rest should work too once accessible
- No manipulator
- No drawn feedback other than moving stuff and header print (no constraint line, snap circle, ...)
- No NDOF support

I've only tested Scons support, though Makefil *should* work, I *think*.

-Exporting project_* and view[line|ray] functions from view3d

* moved almost all declarations from BLI_blenlib.h into their own proper header files.
* BLI_blenlib.h still includes all the declarations for convenience and to avoid changes in existing code
* split util.c into several files, where it wasn't done already
*    DynamicList -> dynamiclist, 
*    ListBase    -> listbase, 
*    String utility functions -> string.c
* removed a few unused macros and functions, if they're needed back, they're still in svn ;)
TODO:
* btempdir global
* further cleanup in the code of the different modules (especially util.c)

ed7bf5a479 2.50: added sequence.c in blenkernel for sequencer functionality
that is not supposed to be in the editor but at blenkernel level
to avoid bad level calls. Added sequencer free and strip iterator
functions there and used them to make sequencer data load/save
work again.

e2fb12ea18 Step 3/3, merging subdivision/bone creation methods using iterators
This also adds a special Embedding option called "Peel Objects". This option makes the embedding snap consider objects as whole, taking the first and last hit of each of them to calculate the embedding point (instead of peeling with first/second, third/fourth and so on). This option is useful if you have mecanical pieces with lots of details (as single objects) and want to put bones in the middle (think of adding bones to a mecha, for example).

f1474648d3 patch #8583: Add support for gcc on irix
to compile blender with gcc on IRIX, IRIX_USE_GCC needs to be set to true in
user-def.mk.

Other changes related to irix:
 * compile solid from extern/
 * don't build plugins (yet) with "make release" when using gcc (the shell
   script used assumes MIPSpro is installed)
 * use statvfs instead of statfs on irix, like done on solaris
 * use external libs from $(LCGDIR) instead of /usr/freeware
 * use glew header files from $(LCGDIR)/glew instead of the ones installed on
   the system (this applies to other platforms as well)
 * ffmpeg support currently is disabled on irix

ff0c599c4b update for compiling cross compiling win32 on linux, had a lot of trouble with makesdna, the only way I could build and link was as a
win32 binary.
Still unable to link blender.exe
and run with wine.

a35345f8ba 2 utility functions added for projection painting.
* BLI_linklist_index() - to get an items index in a  LinkList
* BLI_memarena_use_malloc() - BLI_memarena_use_calloc alredy existed but there was no way to switch back to malloc.

also added texnodes to cmake

Issues:
* GHOST/X11 had conflicting changes. Some code was added in 2.5, which was
  later added in trunk also, but reverted partially, specifically revision
  16683. I have left out this reversion in the 2.5 branch since I think it is
  needed there.

* Scons had various conflicting changes, I decided to go with trunk version
  for everything except priorities and some library renaming.
* In creator.c, there were various fixes and fixes for fixes related to the -w
  -W and -p options. In 2.5 -w and -W is not coded yet, and -p is done
  differently. Since this is changed so much, and I don't think those fixes
  would be needed in 2.5, I've left them out.
* Also in creator.c: there was code for a python bugfix where the screen was not
  initialized when running with -P. The code that initializes the screen there
  I had to disable, that can't work in 2.5 anymore but left it commented as a
  reminder.

Further I had to disable some new function calls. using src/ and python/, as
was done already in this branch, disabled function calls:
* bpath.c: error reporting
* BME_conversions.c: editmesh conversion functions.
* SHD_dynamic: disabled almost completely, there is no python/.
* KX_PythonInit.cpp and Ketsji/ build files: Mathutils is not there, disabled.
* text.c: clipboard copy call.
* object.c: OB_SUPPORT_MATERIAL.
* DerivedMesh.c and subsurf_ccg, stipple_quarttone.

Still to be done:
* Go over files and functions that were moved to a different location but could
  still use changes that were done in trunk.

3bb5fc9c7d * RNA: utility function to retrieve strings. It will use a fixed
size buffer if it's big enough, and otherwise allocate memory.
* Added BLI_dynstr_appendf() to construct strings easily in printf
  style, this should make it easier to construct menu strings for
  example.

a405ed75fe Sketch retargetting. Templating from other armature objects.
Moving stuff home, saving doesn't work ok yet, will finish this later today, demo video when done.

Also a couple of bug fixes for crashing and some text reformulation and the like.

42e287af1c source/blender/blenloader/intern/readfile.c - use memmove rather then strncpy for overlapping strings.
source/blender/blenlib/intern/fileops.c - zero length strings would check for a slash before the strings first char.
source/gameengine/GameLogic/SCA_JoystickSensor.cpp - m_istrig_prev was not initialized
source/blender/src/editmesh.c - active face pointer was not set to NULL in free_editMesh()

0f49fd401f Skeleton Sketching
Cut gesture: drawing a line with RMB adds exact points (joints in the final skeleton) on strokes. Can cut multiple strokes at once as long as it cuts each one only once (this could be changed).

Shape of the gesture doesn't matter, but eventually it would be straight lines shapes for cuts.

2f9e0ec154 This commit fixes bug: [#17770] Texture Plugins do not work. (on windows)
Thanks to Lguillaume for helping with this one.


Had to go back to bug: [#17631] PIL_dynlib_get_error_as_string() returns NULL, causes crash

and revert the fix and make some new updates.
function needs to return NULL so fix the functions that were assuming it
always returns a string.

41ad6f9d0a fix for [#12255] Rename the File at File Window,the file is deleted
renaming a file on win32 would delete it because it didnt test if the 2 filenames were the same (case insensitive), and remove the 'to' file to make way for the 'from' file.
