3d7c8d022e Refactor: Nodes: Generalize node tree subtypes
This patch generalizes node tree subtypes to be usable for node trees
other than Geometry Nodes. In particular, this:

- Renames SpaceNode.geometry_nodes_type to node_tree_sub_type, which now
  store a tree type-specific enum.
- Renames SpaceNode.geometry_nodes_tool_tree to selected_node_group,
  which now stores any context-less tree of any type.

This breaks the python API due to renaming.

fee17f40a2 Nodes: Lower main socket priority of menu sockets
This patch lowers the priority of menu sockets from the maximum priority
to the lowest priority. That's because menu sockets are nearly never the
main socket.

The current state is blocking the adoption of menu sockets in the
compositor, since most of the compositor nodes have color and float main
sockets, which currently have lower priority than menu sockets, making
node link insertion fail.

9788f9f62a Geometry Nodes: sync bundle/closure nodes on first link
When using link-drag-search to create bundle or closure nodes, the newly created
nodes are already synced automatically. Now this automatic syncing also happens
when an empty node is first linked. If there are any sockets already, the
automatic syncing does not happen as it can be unintentional. In this case the
user can just click the sync icon in the node header to update the sockets.

977e82e887 Nodes: Allow auto linking of Extend sockets
The Make Links operator does not work with Extend Sockets and generally
do not respect the node's link function. This patch makes it such that
the operator will fallback to an Extend socket if all else fails,
connecting to the first available socket that is not already linked to
the target node.

The main motivation for supporting this is to allow rapid connections to
the File Output node from big nodes like the Render Layers and Image
nodes, which is typically a slow process for users.

1307137f27 Nodes: clarify socket visibility methods
Node sockets have many different aspects that affect their visibility and
whether they are grayed out. This patch cleans up the methods used to check if
sockets are visible and adds descriptions that should make it more obvious which
ones should be used.

This also fixes a few places where the wrong method was used which is more
obvious now.

5457cca3de Nodes: auto-hide unused inputs if usage depends on menu
Previously, when a socket was detected to be unused, it was just grayed out.
This patch adds support for automatically hiding unused sockets based on this
convention: Menu inputs control visibility while other inputs only control
whether something is grayed out.

More specifically, an input is visible if any of these conditions is met:
* It affects the output currently.
* It never affects the output. In this case its usage does not depend on any
  menu input.
* It is used if all non-menu inputs are considered to be unknown.

In the future, we could support customizing which inputs are allowed to control
visibility. For now it's good to use the convention that Blender generally
follows itself.

As before, panels are grayed out if they only contain grayed out sockets and
panels are hidden when they don't contain any visible sockets.

Hiding inputs works in group nodes, the Geometry Nodes modifier and node
operators. In theory it will work for all node tree types, but since only
Geometry Nodes supports the Menu Switch node currently, this patch currently
only makes a difference there.

The implementation reuses the existing `SocketUsageInferencer` with a different
sets of inputs. So no new core-inferencing logic was needed.

Design task: #132706.

e4e49e1634 Nodes: don't jump viewer node if it's still visible
The goal is to make the viewer node jump less often because each unnecessary
jump feels annoying. Previously, we already had a heuristic that would disable
the jumping if the new viewer location was further away than the old one. Now
the viewer never jumps when it's still visible in the node editor and already to
the right of the node-to-view.

As a byproduct this also fixes an issue where the initial viewer position does
not work properly, because the node does not have known draw-bounds yet.

58ebe99d9d Fix: Compositor: Incorrect viewer is activated
In some cases, multiple viewers can be active and the active viewer is
not the desired one. This is only a problem for the compositor

The fix has two parts:
1. Tag the node tree as changed after the output changes. This solves
 the issue of two viewers being active at the same time
2. Deactivate all other viewers before activating the desired viewer
node (similar to how `NODE_OT_activate_viewer()` works). This ensures
that the only active viewer is the one that the user just set.

8ec9c62d3e Geometry Nodes: add Closures and Bundles behind experimental feature flag
This implements bundles and closures which are described in more detail in this
blog post: https://code.blender.org/2024/11/geometry-nodes-workshop-october-2024/

tl;dr:
* Bundles are containers that allow storing multiple socket values in a single
  value. Each value in the bundle is identified by a name. Bundles can be
  nested.
* Closures are functions that are created with the Closure Zone and can be
  evaluated with the Evaluate Closure node.

To use the patch, the `Bundle and Closure Nodes` experimental feature has to be
enabled. This is necessary, because these features are not fully done yet and
still need iterations to improve the workflow before they can be officially
released. These iterations are easier to do in `main` than in a separate branch
though. That's because this patch is quite large and somewhat prone to merge
conflicts. Also other work we want to do, depends on this.

This adds the following new nodes:
* Combine Bundle: can pack multiple values into one.
* Separate Bundle: extracts values from a bundle.
* Closure Zone: outputs a closure zone for use in the `Evaluate Closure` node.
* Evaluate Closure: evaluates the passed in closure.

Things that will be added soon after this lands:
* Fields in bundles and closures. The way this is done changes with #134811, so
  I rather implement this once both are in `main`.
* UI features for keeping sockets in sync (right now there are warnings only).

One bigger issue is the limited support for lazyness. For example, all inputs of
a Combine Bundle node will be evaluated, even if they are not all needed. The
same is true for all captured values of a closure. This is a deeper limitation
that needs to be resolved at some point. This will likely be done after an
initial version of this patch is done.

10233e95dd Cleanup: use a typed enum for operator & gizmo callbacks
Callbacks: exec invoke & modal now use a typed enum wmOperatorStatus.

This helps avoid mistakes returning incompatible booleans or other
values which don't make sense for operators to return.

It also makes it more obvious functions in the WM API are intended
to be used to calculate return values for operator callbacks.

Operator enums have been moved into DNA_windowmanager_enums.h
so this can be used in other headers without loading other includes
indirectly.

No functional changes expected.

dd168a35c5 Refactor: Replace MEM_cnew with a type-aware template version of MEM_callocN.
The general idea is to keep the 'old', C-style MEM_callocN signature, and slowly
replace most of its usages with the new, C++-style type-safer template version.

* `MEM_cnew<T>` allocation version is renamed to `MEM_callocN<T>`.
* `MEM_cnew_array<T>` allocation version is renamed to `MEM_calloc_arrayN<T>`.
* `MEM_cnew<T>` duplicate version is renamed to `MEM_dupallocN<T>`.

Similar templates type-safe version of `MEM_mallocN` will be added soon
as well.

Following discussions in !134452.

NOTE: For now static type checking in `MEM_callocN` and related are slightly
different for Windows MSVC. This compiler seems to consider structs using the
`DNA_DEFINE_CXX_METHODS` macro as non-trivial (likely because their default
copy constructors are deleted). So using checks on trivially
constructible/destructible instead on this compiler/system.

119fc054f8 Cleanup: BKE: Nodes: Pass-by-reference
Restriction of the nodes api to clearly define never-null function arguments.
Side effects: some assertions and null-check (with early return) were removed.
On the caller side is ensured to never derefer null to pass argument (mainly in RNA).
In addition, one pointer argument now actually a return type.

By-reference return types instead of pointers going to be separate kind of
change since also imply of cleaning up variables created from reference.

b51c560f6e Compositor: Implement shortcuts for Viewer nodes
Artists often want to quickly switch back and forth between two or more nodes while compositing.

This patch implements two operators `NODE_OT_viewer_shortcut_set` and `NODE_OT_viewer_shortcut_get` that allow users to map a viewer node to a shortcut. For example, pressing `cltr+1` while a node is selected, assigns that node to the shortcut `1`, creates a viewer node if it has none attached and sets that viewer node to active. Pressing `1` will set the active node with shortcut `1` to active.

Shortcuts are saved in DNA to preserve them after saving/loading blend files.

Limitations:
- Only compositor node tree is supported, because shading editor has no viewer node and geometry nodes viewer works differently.

971c96a92c Nodes: rename integer type of nodes to type_legacy
The new description for `bNode.type_legacy`:
```
  /**
   * Legacy integer type for nodes. It does not uniquely identify a node type, only the `idname`
   * does that. For example, all custom nodes use #NODE_CUSTOM but do have different idnames.
   * This is mainly kept for compatibility reasons.
   *
   * Currently, this type is also used in many parts of Blender, but that should slowly be phased
   * out by either relying on idnames, accessor methods like `node.is_reroute()`.
   *
   * A main benefit of this integer type over using idnames currently is that integer comparison is
   * much cheaper than string comparison, especially if many idnames have the same prefix (e.g.
   * "GeometryNode"). Eventually, we could introduce cheap-to-compare runtime identifier for node
   * types. That could mean e.g. using `ustring` for idnames (where string comparison is just
   * pointer comparison), or using a run-time generated integer that is automatically assigned when
   * node types are registered.
db7ff834c9 Refactor: Nodes: remove context argument from propagation function
The part that used the context does not seem to be necessary anymore. If the
given tree has any update tag set, the same notifiers will be sent anyway by the
`tree_changed_fn` callback.
If it turns out that we are now missing some notifier, then we have to change
the caller. It either has to call the proper `BKE_ntree_update_tag_*` function,
or create the notifier directly.
This change helps to generalize the concept of propagating changes in original
data, because the context is rarely available.
4e879ed64d Fix #89387: improve handling of unavailable links
A link is unavailable when any of its sockets are unavailable. Sometimes such
links are in a weird inbetween state between being there and not being there at
all. Generally, they should be considered to not be there, but sometimes it's
still useful if they automatically come back when toggling the availability of
sockets. We don't have a replacement for this functionality yet.
This patch changes behavior so that unavailable links are treated as not being
there at all in two places:
* When deciding whether to draw an input socket value.
* When deciding what to do when drawing from a socket (to create a link from it
  or detach existing links). This is done by simply removing unavailable links
  when starting to drag from a corresponding socket. This allows all of the
  existing logic to stay the same.
4bf34d9591 Nodes: Simplify location storage, remove hidden offfsets
Currently each node's position is stored in the coordinate space of
its parent. To find the location of a node on the canvas, we have to
apply the translation of each of its parents. Also, nodes have hidden
"offset" values used while transforming frame nodes. Together,
those made the system much more complicated than necessary,
and they made the Python API ineffective.
This commit removes usage of the offset values and moves nodes
to be stored in the "global" space of the node canvas. It also resolves
some weird behavior when resizing frame nodes, and fixes a few bugs.
The change is forward compatible, so we still write files with nodes in
the old parent-space format. In 5.0 the conversion when writing can be
removed. The existing Python API also stays the same. A new
"location_absolute" property gives node locations in global space,
and changing the old property also moves the child nodes of frames.
Resolves #92458, #72904.
7be4d4f443 Nodes: automatically move viewer node to current node
This improves working with viewer nodes in geometry and compositor nodes.
Previously, the viewer node would typically stay at the position where it was first
inserted which leads to very long links in many cases. Now the viewer node
automatically moves to the place where the user ctrl+shift+clicked to view data.
The viewer is placed slightly to the right and top of the current node. It is moved
up a bit, so that it does not get in the way as quickly when the user wants to add
another new node. Furthermore, the viewer node position is chosen so that it
does not intersect with other nodes.
In the future we could implement animating the node position so that it slowly
transitions to it's new places.
