Add `index_range()` and `is_empty()` functions, rename `ranges_num()` to `size()` (clarifying the final extra integer as an implementation detail). Also remove the `size(index)` function which gave almost the same assembly as `[index].size()` (https://godbolt.org/z/PYzqYs3Kr).
